The seminar began with an inspiring inauguration talk delivered by Subhasmita Mohapatra. In her address, she warmly welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, and students from both 1st and 3rd Semesters. She emphasized the growing relevance of emerging technologies in shaping the future of computer science and highlighted the importance of understanding blockchain as a transformative digital innovation. Her motivational words set a positive tone for the seminar, encouraging students to actively engage, learn, and participate throughout the session. Her introduction served as a perfect start, creating an environment of curiosity and enthusiasm for the discussions ahead.

The P.G. Department of Computer Science organized a seminar on Blockchain Technology for the students of 1st Semester (1st Year) and 3rd Semester (2nd Year). The session was graced by the presence of Dr. Minati Mishra (HOD)Dr. Manaswini PradhanMr. Nikhilananda Dhal, and Mr. Rama Chandra Dey. The event aimed to introduce students to the rapidly evolving domain of blockchain and its significance in modern digital ecosystems. Faculty members and students gathered to explore the fundamentals, applications, and challenges of this emerging technology.

The seminar began with an introductory talk by the faculty, highlighting what blockchain technology is—a decentralized, distributed ledger system that records transactions across multiple nodes in a secure and transparent manner. The speakers explained that blockchain eliminates the need for intermediaries by enabling peer-to-peer transactions and ensuring data integrity through cryptographic techniques. The history of blockchain was traced back to the concept of digital timestamps from the early 1990s, followed by the breakthrough invention of Bitcoin by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008, which established blockchain as the backbone of cryptocurrencies.

The resource persons further elaborated on the working mechanism of blockchain, describing how each block contains transaction data, a timestamp, and a cryptographic hash linking it to the previous block. This mechanism creates an immutable chain where modifications are nearly impossible. Concepts such as consensus mechanisms (Proof of Work, Proof of Stake), smart contracts, and decentralized applications (DApps) were briefly discussed. Students gained insights into how these components ensure transparency, security, and trust across the network.

The seminar also covered the applications of blockchain technology in various sectors. Beyond cryptocurrencies, blockchain is now used in supply chain management, healthcare records, digital identity verification, banking, e-governance, and cybersecurity. The speakers emphasized how blockchain enhances traceability, reduces fraud, and promotes efficiency. The session also highlighted its advantages, including decentralization, transparency, immutability, enhanced security, and reduced operational costs. On the other hand, the disadvantages such as high energy consumption, scalability issues, slow processing speed in some blockchain networks, and regulatory challenges were discussed to offer a balanced understanding.

After the technical presentations, a question-and-answer session was conducted where students actively participated. Queries related to cryptocurrency mining, blockchain career opportunities, and real-world use cases were answered by the faculty members. The interaction encouraged deeper understanding and curiosity among the students, making the session lively and informative.

The seminar concluded with a brief course summary presented by Ratna Prava and Dibya, who recapped the key points discussed during the session. They highlighted the growing importance of blockchain technology in the digital era and its potential to reshape future innovations. The event successfully enriched the knowledge of students and motivated them to explore advanced research areas in blockchain and related technologies.

The seminar concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks proposed by Kanhu Charan Baiari. He expressed sincere gratitude to Dr. Minati Mishra (HOD), Dr. Manaswini Pradhan, Mr. Nikhilananda Dhal, and Mr. Rama Chandra Dey for their valuable presence and guidance during the event. He also thanked the organizing committee, technical support team, and all students of 1st and 3rd Semesters for their active participation, insightful questions, and disciplined cooperation. Acknowledging the collective effort that made the seminar successful, he conveyed appreciation to the speakers and student presenters for their contributions. The Vote of Thanks marked a graceful end to the session, leaving everyone with renewed interest in exploring the vast possibilities of blockchain technology.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the seminar on Blockchain Technology organized by the P.G. Department of Computer Science proved to be highly informative and enriching for both the 1st Semester and 3rd Semester students. The insightful guidance of Dr. Minati Mishra (HOD), Dr. Manaswini Pradhan, Mr. Nikhilananda Dhal, and Mr. Rama Chandra Dey helped the participants clearly understand the foundational concepts, historical background, working mechanisms, applications, and limitations of blockchain. The interactive question-and-answer session further strengthened students’ conceptual clarity by addressing practical doubts and real-world implications of blockchain systems. Overall, the seminar successfully broadened the students’ perspective on emerging technologies and inspired them to explore new avenues in the fields of distributed systems, cybersecurity, and digital innovation. The session concluded with the hope that this knowledge will motivate students to engage in research, projects, and advanced learning in the rapidly evolving domain of blockchain technology.
